My gift for Mike.

I made this quilt over the last several weeks for a man I never met.  I won't get to give it to him.  He was severely injured diving into a creek to save a little girl from drowning.  She survived, but he succumbed to complications of the injuries he incurred in attempting to save her.  He was a simple man, but a kind, honest soul who paid the ultimate sacrifice in trying to save another.  His name was Mike Patterson.  I am giving the quilt to those who loved him, as a small token to honor his spirit and kindness.  It is made from well loved t-shirts given to me by family and friends, who, like me, when hearing of Mike's story, wanted to show him kindness as well.  I am grateful to all those who donated to the quilt.  The intention was a virtual hug for Mike, but now will be a token of the kindness of his spirit.  <3.

My tee shirt upcycle

There are many t shirt upcycle ideas out there.  I took the idea and apply the way I make pillowcase dresses, and really like he result!

My picnic basket upcycle

I found this picnic basket at a garage sale for $3.  I loved it, and grabbed it up to bring to Friday free summer concerts in the park.  It needed something, however:

I brought it home, found some scrap bandana looking fabric, som thin batting, and with some hot glue, pinking shears for cutting the edges to prevent fraying, I ended up with this:

I turned the basket upside down to cut my template.  I also taped it in place prior to gluing, then removed tape as I glued.  I think it turned out really cute!
